The South Burgundy Street Jazz Band (SBSJB) It is now well into 2010 and the south Burgundy Street Jazz band (SBSJB) is fast becoming a jazz festival favorite in Southern California... and Canada. With jazz festivals in mind, Mike Olson, back in 2006, organized a dixieland jazz band that has evolved into a very musically talented, entertaining and high energy jazz band. In addition to playing a number of dixiland standards, they play a great deal of the often forgotten jazz gems that the creators of jazz wrote and recorded back in the 1910's, 1920's, 1930's and a few later than that, such as, "The Five Pennies," written for the 1959 film, "The Five Pennies," based on the life of Red Nichols, and Corey Gemme's "Etiwanda Twilight." While SBSJB's first love is performing at jazz festivals they also enjoy the quaint atmosphere of the Sunday Society For The Preservation of Dixieland Jazz (a.k.a. jazz clubs). FESTIVALS: Vancouver, Canada, Pismo Beach, Redding, San Clemente, Blythe JAZZ CLUBS: Chandler, Arizona, San Diego, Lake San Marcos, Canoga Park, Lakeside Jazz Club in Lake Elsinore, Simi Valley, Redondo Beach... in addition to the El Segundo Old Town Music Hall, Arcadia Blues Club, and some private parties in Palm Springs and the San Gabriel area. |

Dixieland Jazz at Dodger's Stadium with The Dodgers batted their way to South Burgundy Street Jazz Band's website and contacted Mike with interest in having a "lively and entertaining" strolling dixieland combo for performing before and after their baseball games. With four memebers of SBSJB (Corey: cornet, Mike: clarinet, Robert: trombone, CJ: sousaphone) and the addition of Katie Cavera on banjo, the "BATTER'S UP JAZZ BAND" was formed, and will perform only at the Dodger's Stadium for the games, and for any private event they might be hired for as a result of sombody seeing them perform there at the stadium. They've played for three games so far, and the fans love them. The (BUJB) have created "after game dixiland parties" at the exit gate with the fans going wild... |
